'Learning styles' are a myth

If you've ever heard someone say 'I'm a visual learner', you're probably aware of the education trend, big in the 90s, that different people learn better visually, aurally, kinaesthetically or through reading.
But study after study has shown it to be false – while students believe they learn better in one style or another, and can be sorted using a 16-question test, they don't actually perform any better when given the opportunity to study or be examined in their preferred style. Aural learners are no worse at memorising images than visual learners.
The best way to learn is the way that suits the material, rather than forcing it into an ill-fitting box to match the myth of the learning style.
