About
Mitchell Cheong
Senior Product Designer
Mitchell is an experienced multidisciplinary product designer. He has worked for almost a decade applying human-centred design principles to the research, conception and development of consumer, healthcare, transportation and technological products. He develops products and experiences that deliver positive impacts with meaningful purpose.
Mitchell has worked on government, commercial and public projects for the likes of the Victoria Police, the National Recovery and Resilience Agency (now integrated into the National Emergency Management Agency), the Department of the Treasury, SEEK, Bank Australia and the Geelong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Mitchell brings his experience in industrial design and mechanical engineering into the digital spaces that he works on at Paper Giant, be they websites, intranets or journey maps. For example, the long lead production times of physical products have conditioned him to consider the current problem, context and need alongside likely future needs and contexts that such a product could solve. With this predictive mind, he seeks to answer the question of what should be developed to solve both current and future challenges. He sees his role as facilitating the problem space.
Mitchell’s aesthetic and design focus is on useability, inclusivity and accessibility — designing for all abilities. His process is one of building and prototyping early in order to test with diverse audiences and potential users and iterate designs based on his findings.
Mitchell has a Bachelor in Design and Engineering, specialising in industrial design, Honours in mechanical engineering, and credentials in user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design. He has tutored industrial design at Monash University.
