What really is creativity?

I have had an uncomfortable relationship with ‘creativity’ my entire life. I was a child who was full of big ideas but who could never draw, entertain or make. As an adult, I found myself in the ‘creative industries’, where creativity was a job assigned to a particular team or role.

I can’t entirely agree with these paradigms and classifications. I see and experience creativity in so many different aspects of my life, at work and outside it. This article helped me shape my perception of what creativity is.

I know there is an increasing appetite for creativity to be a driving force for change within society and organisations alike. This piece describes a creative stance as one that's comfortable not having an immediate answer, comfortable saying “I have to go through the chaos of not knowing to get to the other side.”

We are going to need creative thinkers now (more than ever) to help us get out of the mess we find ourselves in.

We pay our respects to the traditional custodians of the lands on which we live and work, and to the traditional custodians of the lands and waters which we may visit upon in our work. We acknowledge their elders past and present. Indigenous sovereignty has never been ceded. It always was, and always will be Aboriginal land.
