The best virtual team building activities, according to full-time remote workers
This article from the Atlassian blog gives 12 remote team-building exercises and explains why they’re important. It’s a mix of real-time vs asynchronous, practical vs silly, and once-off vs regular. Some of these we already encourage or have tried at Paper Giant, and others I’m keen to give a whirl!
A few examples:
- Starting your next meeting with an ice-breaker question like “which comes first in the morning for you, coffee or breakfast?”
- Sharing home workspace photos with each other, like “messy desk Thursdays”
- Creating a ‘user manual’ for oneself and sharing it with our team, either as a presentation or a video they can watch later (there’s another article with some good ideas on this one too)
- Collaborative playlists, that anyone on the team can listen to and help curate
They all seem to be great suggestions, but I also wanted to share this particular article at this time as a prompt to think more about how we’re connecting with each other, especially as some organisations are now deeper into a remote work period and may be starting to feel more of a strain on team relationships than they were at first.
