How ‘slow science’ can improve the way we do and interpret research

In a newly translated manifesto, Belgian philosopher of science Isabelle Stengers challenges the rise of the 'knowledge economy' and the privatisation of science. She criticises the commercial motivation that puts getting a product to market before competitors ahead of the public interest.

She calls for policies that give researchers space for more exploratory 'What if?' questions, as well as 'Why are you doing this? What is it for? What will the impacts be?'

We pay our respects to the traditional custodians of the lands on which we live and work, and to the traditional custodians of the lands and waters which we may visit upon in our work. We acknowledge their elders past and present. Indigenous sovereignty has never been ceded. It always was, and always will be Aboriginal land.
