Google to stop selling ads based on your specific web browsing

I find ad targeting invasive. I had never thought it was cute when a platform sends me an ad for a product that (vaguely) relates to a search term I used a few hours earlier.

I never buy the product.

This sort of bullshit is more likely to build an aversion to the brand being pushed onto me. Ad targeting is not intuitive. It’s a counter-intuitive practice that provides very little value to the customer.

It is good to see Google leading the way here and respecting our privacy rights. But I am deeply suspicious about what is actually going to be done given that such a large percentage of their revenue (83.3% Forbes tells me) comes from ad dollars.
